The Untouchables (1987)

41) The Untouchables (1987)

Federal Agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop Al Capone; because of rampant corruption, he assembles a small, hand-picked team.

7/10 – One of the many good things to come out of this challenge, is that it is encouraging me not just to focus on the new releases, but to go back and watch films that are considered ‘classics’. Keeping in mind, that the point of this is to watch a film each time that I haven’t watched before, quite often at the end of the film I’m left thinking, “I can’t believe it took me this long to get around to watching it”.

That is the case with this film, even more so because I’ve owned it on DVD for years. I’m warming to the whole gangster movie genre now, for ages I’ve put off watching them because I thought they were ‘slow’. This film was anything but that, it was action packed and told an interesting story, but didn’t quite live up to expectation.

A couple of things I couldn’t shake from this film was how bad Kevin Costner was, and how this was considered his breakout role? It was painful to watch. Also, Sean Connery annoyed the hell out of me. The accent he was trying to do was one of the worst I’ve heard.
